INDEBTED
According to William Butler Yeats, ‘Education is not the filling of a pot, but the lighting of a fire.’
At the age of 87, Michelangelo inscribed on a sketch, “ancora imparo", which means, I’m still learning!
If you ask a centenarian, he’ll probably tell you, that he continues to learn new things from every person around him, for almost all the 100 years of his life.
A new lesson, a talent, hobby or a skill,
Something dramatic to give life a thrill.
From the time we are born,
We pick up little things every morn’.
Started out with a step or two,
uttered words so few,
and now,
We’re winning hurdles and publishing journals.
To the many Captains of our Ship,
For charting our paths,
And steering us through stormy seas.
Our parents, grand-parents, siblings,
Teachers, professors, colleagues and friends,
For fueling our wild imaginations,
And building strong foundations,
For kindling the spark of creativity,
And filling us up with positivity,
For awakening our intellect,
And not quitting until we’re perfect,
And Helping us rise high and touch the sky.
For filling us with knowledge galore,
Your unwavering belief and so much more,
For protecting us under your wing,
And nurturing us like the spring,
For lifting us up, each time we fall,
And heeding our every call.
For helping us to dream and soar like a kite,
And for teaching us to walk towards the light.
To the professors of language, science, art and math,
To the flames that illuminated our path,
To all the real-life Superheroes,
who helped us grow,
who taught us that life is so much more,
THANK YOU!
For the dawn of every poet, astronaut, surgeon or king,
begins with the will of a Teacher and the wisdom they bring.
